The above is a cutting from the Western Times on the 28th August, 1917, for Quarter Master- Sergeant F. E. Day. He served with the 1st Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry (Regimental No. 4339). He was assumed dead on the 1st July, 1916. There is no further information as to his life in South Petherwin or how he won the awards. What is for certain is that he deserves a mention on this page.
